Seven sophomore fillies will contest Saturday’s Bonnie Miss S. (G2) at
Gulfstream Park. We’ll go with the
only winner at the Bonnie Miss distance, PLEASANT CHIMES (Pleasant Tap), who is
a perfect two-for-two and has been working well in the morning. The Mark Hennig
trainee’s pair of victories have both come here at Gulfstream, and at 6-1 on the
morning line, we love this speedy sophomore.
IN THE GOLD (Golden Missile) ran second to a dominant Sis City (Slew City
Slew) in the Davona Dale S. (G2) last time and is easily the class of the field.
The chestnut ran third by a head in the Alcibiades S. (G2) to a pair of the top
three-year-old filly prospects in the country, Runway Model (Petionville) and
Sharp Lisa (Dixieland Band), and merits respect for that contest last
October. Watch out for the Nick Zito trainee with Pat Day aboard.
COOL SPELL (Grand Slam) seems to have prospered over the winter, winning the
seven-furlong Gasparilla S. last out off a seven-month layoff for conditioner
John Hennig. We think she’ll enjoy the added distance and will have her in
exotics.
Carl Nafzger’s charge, ASPEN TREE (Holy Bull), ran third in the Old Hat S.
(G2) most recently to an impressive Maddalena (Good and Tough), who remained
undefeated when taking that contest. The chestnut has not missed the board in
four career starts and we can’t rule her out.
JILL ROBIN L (Precocity) seems to consistently come up short against these
but has the services of Jerry Bailey and could surprise with a good showing.
She’ll be in the bottom of our gimmicks.
The Kenny McPeek-trained SWEET TALKER (Stormin Fever) won the Caressing H.
going long on the turf at Churchill Downs last fall and has been off for three
months so we’ll give her a race. ANNETTE’S JET (Golden Missile) broke her maiden
at first asking but steps up here and may be outclassed.
