HARLINGTON (Unbridled) came out of the Risen Star S. (G3) at Fair Grounds
with a wrenched ankle and will miss the spring classics, trainer Todd Pletcher
told Daily Racing Form.
“X-rays were negative, but he’s such a big, young horse we decided just to
back off him, send him to the farm for 45 days, and then bring him back and
point for the Travers (S. [G1]),” Pletcher said.
Harlington, a $2.8 million yearling purchase out of champion Serena’s Song (Rahy),
won his first two career starts, including a three-length romp going nine
furlongs over a sloppy track at Gulfstream Park on January 15. The dark bay was
sent off as the 6-5 favorite in the February 12 Risen Star, but had a wide trip
from post 10 and finished sixth, beaten three lengths.
Harlington was under consideration for Saturday’s Fountain of Youth S. (G2)
at Gulfstream Park. He closed as the 19-1 seventh choice in Pool 1 of the
Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
