Grade 1 winner STAR OVER THE BAY (Cozzene) made a successful 2005 debut in
the Sunshine Millions Turf at Santa Anita in late January and will try to keep
his winning year going on Sunday in the $200,000 San Luis Rey H. (G2). Since
being claimed in May last year, the six-year-old has reeled off four wins from
six starts for new trainer Mike Mitchell, including victories in the Clement L.
Hirsch H. (G1), Del Mar H. (G2) and Sunset H. (G2). He’ll have to tote the
highweight of 120 pounds on Sunday with Tyler Baze in the saddle.

METEOR STORM (GB) (Bigstone [Ire]) will try to duplicate his win in last
year’s edition of the San Luis Rey. The six-year-old followed his neck score in
the 1 1/2-mile turf test with wins in the San Juan Capistrano H. (G2) and
Manhattan H. (G1) before finishing off the board in the United Nations H. (G1).
Trained by Wally Dollase, Meteor Storm wasn’t seen in competition again until
the Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G1) earlier this month, where he ran a close
fourth. He’ll go under a 118-pound impost.

CONTINENTAL RED (Flying Continental), hero of the 2002 running of the San
Luis Rey, will only have to carry 115 pounds
under Garrett Gomez.
