A trio of Kentucky Derby (G1) contenders put in four-furlong breezes on
Saturday over the fast track at Churchill Downs.
The Nick Zito-trained duo of HIGH FLY (Atticus) and NOBLE CAUSEWAY (Giant’s
Causeway) finished 1-2, respectively, in the Florida Derby (G1) last out and
returned to the worktab for the first time since that run. High Fly was clocked
in :51 3/5 for his move, while his stablemate got a half-mile in :50 3/5.
Zito indicated after the Florida Derby that he plans to train the two up to
the Kentucky Derby on May 7.
Also preparing for a possible Run for the Roses, GREELEY’S GALAXY (Mr. Greeley)
breezed four furlongs in a bullet :47 3/5, the fastest of 28 moves for the
distance on the day. Trained by Glen Stute, the chestnut colt threw his hat in
the Derby mix after a 9 1/2-length win in the Illinois Derby (G2) last out.
Since he wasn’t an early nomination to the Derby and Triple Crown, owner B.
Wayne Hughes will have to pay a $200,000 supplemental fee and wait to see if his
horse draws in.
