Grade 1 winner GOOD REWARD (Storm Cat) will carry top weight of
123 pounds in Friday’s $250,000 Maker’s Mark Mile S. (G2) over Keeneland’s
Haggin Course. Trained by Shug McGaughey, the bay four-year-old
ended 2004 with a half-length score in the Hollywood Derby (G1), then returned
to finish fourth in the nine-furlong Strub S. (G2) at Santa Anita in his
seasonal debut. He’ll have John Velazquez in the saddle for the
first time.
MR. LIGHT (Arg) (Numerous) will seek his third consecutive victory of the
year on Friday. The Angel Penna Jr. trainee
won a third-level allowance race on the turf at
Gulfstream Park before capturing the grassy
Appleton H. (G3) in his last start. He goes under a 117-pound impost, including jockey Cornelio
Velasquez.
