A field of nine will head to the gate for Saturday’s $150,000 San Francisco
Breeders’ Cup Mile H. (G2) at Bay Meadows. The Jeff Mullins-trained CASTLEDALE
(Ire) (Peintre Celebre) is listed as the 2-1 morning-line favorite in the
one-mile turf affair, but we will go with ADREAMISBORN (Kris S.), who is listed
at 4-1, to get a little more value.
The six-year-old gelding is coupled with GOLD RUCKUS (Gold Alert) for trainer
Jerry Hollendorfer. Adreamisborn comes off a victory in the Stanford Breeders’
Cup H. (G3) on this same surface, winning three of five tries on the San
Mateo, California, grass. He shows good closing speed, posting triple-digit BRIS Late
Pace figures in his last five outings. Regular jockey Russell Baze has the call.
TERROPLANE (Fr) (Verglas [Ire]) comes off a victory against allowance
company. His early speed should help him in this field of late runners. The
Neil Drysdale charge has an affinity for the San Francisco distance, posting a
record of 8-4-1-1 in one-mile contests. Jockey Corey Nakatani rode the
four-year-old to his last win and a close second in an allowance race prior to
that. The duo is perfectly capable of finding the winner’s circle here.
Castledale began a successful career on the turf in his homeland before
moving to the United States. After only scoring once in five dirt tries, he returned to the grass
last month to post a head loss against an optional-claiming field at Santa
Anita. He has consistently earned high BRIS E2 figures and should stay in
contention.
NIGHT BOKBEL (Ire) (Night Shift) exits a stellar performance in the Stanford for
conditioner Julio Canani, coming from last to just miss by a head. Jockey Luis Jauregui returns to improve off that effort.
Gold Ruckus is a Bay Meadows veteran, winning three times in his seven starts
over this course. Hollendorfer has switched the seven-year-old gelding back and
forth between the turf and dirt, trying to find his favorite surface, but has
found only minimal success. Gold Ruckus seems to favor the turf slightly better
and is capable of rising to the occasion here.
NIGHT PATROL (Storm Boot) makes the switch back to trainer Marcelo Polanco
for this one. The nine-year-old’s front-running style could leave him up for
part as the field crosses under the wire. IMITATION (Grand Slam) has the front
speed to keep him in contention for the early parts of this race, but we’re not
sure if he can hold off the late runs from some of the closers here.
The lightly raced PRIVATE CHEF (Partner’s Hero) is victorious in the graded
ranks, winning a Grade 3 in only his second career start back in 2003, but has
not shown the form that he demonstrated in the beginning of his career. ALY BUBBA (Alymagic) is winless in eight tries at Bay Meadows and hasn’t really
shown the ability to compete with the rest of this field.
