Today’s Topic: A good work pattern for a comebacker with poor form may
indicate a reversal of form
When a horse has been given some significant time away from the races after a
couple of poor efforts, there is always the possibility of him returning more
mature and grown up or simply recovered from a problem that had been bothering
him. Often the workout pattern combined with a decent trainer stat for returning
runners will forecast the necessary improvement.
On April 6 at Aqueduct in the 7TH race, THATSWHYWEBOUGHTTO (Sea Salute) was
entered off a seven-month vacation. His form showed two poor races in which he
had gone backward from the half-mile pole. However, he had six very good
workouts coming into this race in which he had “responded well when asked and
galloped out very well.” Two of these workouts were rated Grade B+, and trainer Linda Rice,
who wins at a 15 percent with horses returning from an extended layoff of 90+ days, sealed
the bargain.
Thatswhyweboughtto wired his field to pay $19.40.
