Seven marathoners will go postward on Monday in the $100,000 Louisville H.
(G3) at Churchill Downs. Defending champion SILVERFOOT (With Approval) comes in
off an allowance score at Keeneland and could prove best once again in the 1 3/8-mile turf race for trainer Dallas Stewart. The gray five-year-old sports a
wonderful 9-5-0-1 career turf mark, including two for two over this surface, and
will be tough to hold off under Robby Albarado. We like the gelding’s chances
for the win.

RAPID PROOF (Fast Play) is incredibly consistent for trainer Hal Wiggins,
evidenced by hitting the board in 14 of 19 lifetime grassy outings. The dark bay
hasn’t been off the board in 2005, including wins in the Mervin H. Muniz Jr.
Memorial H. (G2) and the recent John B. Connally Breeders’ Cup Turf H., and seems
poised for another top effort in here. Although the five-year-old has never
attempted this distance, his current form and breeding should make him live in
here.

EPICENTRE (Kris S.) was very wide in the Elkhorn S. (G3) last out but is much
better than he showed that day for Bobby Frankel. The bay is yet another proven
marathoner who has a big shot here, but we’ll take a stand against on the win
end. His late running style could prove costly in here with lack of early pace
to run at.

ROCHESTER (Green Dancer) made a winning move in the Elkhorn but fell short in
the latter stages, ultimately finishing third for conditioner Jonathan Sheppard.
The nine-year-old still has plenty of run in him, but is winless over the course
and at the distance, so we’ll keep him on the bottom of exotics.

GREY BEARD (Unbridled’s Song) shows just three wins from 31 lifetime starts,
but the bay could find himself on the early lead through some pretty slow
fractions in this one. The six-year-old doesn’t own the credentials to match these, but he could last for a minor share under Calvin Borel.

GULF NEWS (Woodman) and GOTTABEACHBOY (Mister Baileys [GB]) have never shown
the ability to run with this type and would be a total surprise to us.
