Grade 2 winner MEDALLIST (Touch Gold) has a fractured sesamoid in his left
front leg and will not run in Monday’s $750,000 Metropolitan H. (G1), trainer
Allen Jerkens told Daily Racing Form. The four-year-old is expected to be
sidelined until next year. The injury, which is non-displaced, could propel the
colt toward a career as a stallion.
Medallist is the only horse to defeat FOREST DANGER (Forestry), the probable
second choice to reigning Horse of the Year GHOSTZAPPER (Awesome Again) in
Monday’s Met Mile. The dark bay did so in last year’s one-mile Withers S. (G3)
at Aqueduct.
This year, Medallist captured the 6 1/2-furlong Deputy Minister H. (G3) in
track record time at Gulfstream Park, then finished second to Forest Danger in
the seven-furlong Carter H. (G1) at Aqueduct. Overall, he has five wins, two
seconds and one third from 12 starts and has earned $421,375.
