Today’s Topic: Watch for a good finish in workouts for first time starters
On May 20 at Hollywood Park in the 6TH race, a first-time starter named
MODERN VIEWPOINT (Event of the Year) didn’t draw any action from the 10-1
morning line. He was from a low percentage barn with no recent first-time
starter winners. However, he was from the powerful Golden Eagle Farm, who
normally have their horses with high visibility trainers. It was enough of an
angle to give the horse a second look.
More importantly, Modern Viewpoint had a very nice Grade B+ drill at SA in
April in which he worked in company and “…put in a nice rush late to be much
the best to finish in 59.3. Went the final 1/4 in 24.3 while finishing under a
hand ride. Very nice move and reached out with good energy…” He put in a nice
rush to score late in his debut and paid $43.60 to win.
