A field of nine juvenile fillies will line up Saturday for the $150,000
Sorrento S. (G3) at 6 1/2 furlongs. BULLY BONES (Hesabull) impressed in her
career debut last out, winning a $45,000 maiden by a half-length while earning a 102 BRIS
Speed figure. The David la Croix trainee has been training forwardly for her
over the Del Mar main track in preparation for Saturday’s race over
that same surface. Rene Douglas has the call.
TIGER ON THE LOOSE (Tale of the Cat) will be making her third start for
trainer Ted West and has good front-running speed, earning triple-digit BRIS E1 and
E2 Pace ratings in both of her previous starts, which should prove beneficial
over a track that tends to favor speed. Corey Nakatani will pilot the dark bay
miss.
HYSTERICALADY (Distorted Humor) is unbeaten in two starts so far, annexing
the Juan Gonzalez Memorial S. at Pleasanton last out by a nose. The Jerry
Hollendorfer charge is the only starter in the field besides our top choice to
have earned a century-topping Speed figure and has a good shot in this one under
jockey Pat Valenzuela.
INDIAN BREEZE (Indian Charlie) is also coming off two-straight victories,
both under Saturday’s jockey, Tyler Baze. Her latest outing was a three-quarter-of-a-length
victory in the Landaluce S. at Hollywood Park. Indian Breeze should be
found on or just off the early pace and also has the speed to stay in front for
the entirety. She has been working well for conditioner Adam Kitchingman and has a shot for the board.
SLICK ROAD (Mud Route) broke her maiden in her fourth try last out after
grabbing the early lead and keeping it. She has hit the board in all four of her
starts, including third-place finishes in the Nursery S. and Cinderella S. Her
sire’s progeny have proved best at the Sorrento distance and the chestnut has a
good chance for part.
ACCELERATION (Vision and Verse) split rivals and rallied to a one-length
decision in an allowance last out, her first start for trainer Jeff Mullins and
fourth overall. Mullins has fared well at this meet, providing eight winners
from 29 starters. Although the bay filly’s numbers don’t quite match up to those
of the rest of the field, she still has a chance for the bottom of the gimmicks.
DIPLOMAT LADY (Forestry) battled furiously for a nose victory against maiden
rivals last out, despite some slight bumping at the eighth pole. She is coming
off a 52-day layoff, but has been putting in some good works since that start.
Your call.
I CAN SEE (Flying Chevron) has come up short in her last two outings and will
probably benefit from the stretch in distance here. NORISKA NUMBER ONE (Menhal)
could not finish off her maiden-claming rivals last out and we don’t see her
playing a factor in this one.
