A dark bay colt by Yonaguska topped the third open session of the Ocala
Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2005 August Yearling Sale on Thursday when Vinery
Stables went to a final bid of $95,000. Consigned by Summerfield (Francis &
Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent, as Hip No. 959, the yearling is out of the
unraced Penguin Parade (Miswaki), making him a half-brother to the stakes-placed
Tuesday Prayer (Holy Bull). His dam is herself a half-sibling to multiple Group
3 winner Heart of Groom (Blushing Groom [Fr]).
A total of 190 yearlings were sold on Thursday for an aggregate $1,587,200.
The average was $8,354 and the median came to $5,000. Those numbers were down
45.5 percent, 31.2 percent and 20 percent, respectively, on last year’s
corresponding gross ($2,914,100), average ($12,142) and median ($6,250) when 240
horses passed through the ring. The buyback percentage was 29.9 percent compared
to 17.5 percent 12 months ago.
The final open session begins Friday at 11 a.m. (EDT).
