Carl Bowling and Vickie Foley et al’s SHE SAYS IT BEST (Stormy Atlantic) was
a clear winner in the $400,000
Alcibiades S. (G2), Friday’s feature race for
Keeneland’s opening day. Sent to the early lead by jockey Eddie Martin Jr., the
juvenile miss took to the early lead on the rail, opening a clear advantage in :23 4/5 and :48 1/5
with Easy Slam (Grand Slam) trailing in second. As She Says It Best logged six
furlongs in 1:14 1/5, 2-1 favorite Ex Caelis (Fusaichi Pegasus) had taken up the
second on the outside, but she was not able to capitalize on her move,
trailing as She Says It Best completed the 1 1/16-mile affair in 1:49 over a
fast track.
“We had a good break and were able to clear in the first sixteenth,” Martin
said. “She took it from there.”
Sent off at 9-1, the Foley trainee returned $21.40, $8.20 and $4.80 for her
effort, leading the $73.60 exacta. Ex Caelis trailed by 2 1/2 lengths at the
wire, giving $3.60 and $3 while Performing Diva (Storm Cat) finished another two
lengths back at 9-2 to pay $4.20, rounding out the $306 trifecta. Coolwind (Forest
Wildcat) completed the $3,285.60 superfecta (9-6-3-10) at nearly 11-1. More Than
Pretty (More Than Ready), Maggie Slew (Seattle Slew), Easy Slam, Trick’s Pic
(Favorite Trick), Dixie Dreamer (Mutakddim) and Joint Effort (Runaway Groom). Rainbow Pond (Lemon Drop Kid)
broke down entering the first turn and was eased.

“She’s a fantastic filly with a lot of stamina,” Foley said. “I knew she
wouldn’t have any trouble going two turns.”
Bred in Florida by Bowling, She Says It Best is the third stakes winner out of the stakes-winning
mare Bestsayes (Marsayas) and is a half-sister to an unnamed yearling filly and
a weanling colt, both by Three Wonders. The winning filly exits a close second
in the Bassinet S. at River Downs and increases her record to 6-4-1-0 with
$338,478 in earnings. The dark bay was purchased at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales
Selected Two-Year-Old Sale for $115,000.
