Ashado sale will help Thoroughbred charities

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of last year’s champion and Breeders’
Cup Distaff (G1) winner, ASHADO (Saint Ballado), will be donated to the
Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA), it was announced on Friday.

Ashado, winner of seven Grade 1s so far in her career, has been consigned to
the Keeneland November Mixed Sale by Taylor Made Sales Agency. The dark bay
four-year-old — owned by Laurie and Jack Wolf, Paul Saylor and Johns Martin —
captured the Kentucky Oaks (G1) last season and has continued her winning ways
this year. She most recently took the Beldame S. (G1) in advance of an attempt
at a title defense in the Distaff on October 29 at Belmont Park.

“On behalf of the partners, we feel very fortunate in the Thoroughbred
industry and with the sale of Ashado, our crown jewel, it’s a perfect
opportunity to give back to the industry,” Laurie and Jack Wolf said in a
statement. “By giving to the Thoroughbred Charities of America, we know the
funds will go to all aspects of the racing community.”

The TCA is the largest umbrella non-profit organization in the Thoroughbred
industry, distributing money to more than 100 organizations involved with
Thoroughbred rescue, retirement, rehabilitation, research and education as well
as backstretch, jockey and therapeutic riding programs.
