Godolphin’s DUBAWI (Dubai Millennium), winner of the Irish Two Thousand
Guineas (Eng-G1) and Prix Jacques le Marois (Fr-G1) this year, has been retired
after sustaining an injury to a hind ligament. The three-year-old colt had been
pointing toward an engagement in the October 29 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at
Belmont Park.

The best son to race from the ill-fated Dubai Millennium, Dubawi earned
$1,325,125 from a 8-5-1-1 lifetime mark.

“He was a great racehorse by a great stallion,” trainer Saeed bin Suroor
commented. “We are going to miss him at Godolphin — he was the best
three-year-old we had.”

The Irish-bred colt won all three starts at two, including victories in the
National S. (Ire-G1) and Weatherbys Superlative (Eng-G3), and he defeated
Oratorio (Danehill) prior to a third-place finish in the Vodafone Derby (Eng-G1). Dubawi concluded his racing career with a close second behind Starcraft (Soviet
Star) in the September 24 Queen Elizabeth II S. (Eng-G1).

“It was a joy to have Dubawi within Godolphin,” racing manager Simon Crisford
said. “He was a great racehorse who performed at the highest level as a
two-year-old and throughout his classic campaign. He was such an exciting colt
and gave everything he had in his races.”

Stud details aren’t finalized.
