Joint Aspiration cruises in Gaviola to give Stevens win
5,000
Fergus Galvin’s JOINT ASPIRATION (GB) (Pivotal) moved into contention turning
for home and powered home an impressive two-length winner of the $69,950
Gaviola
S. over the Belmont lawn on Sunday. The import, who is trained by Jeremy Noseda,
completed 1 1/16 miles over the good turf in 1:44 1/5 in annexing her initial
stakes win.
Silver Charades (Broad Brush), the 2-1 betting choice, broke on top and led
the field through splits of :25 1/5 and :49 4/5 for the opening half-mile. The
field began to bunch as they approached the turn for home, and it was Joint
Aspiration who was doing the best on the outside under Gary Stevens.
The win gave Stevens his 5,000th career victory.
The winner
was let off at 5-1 and gave back $12.80, $6.90 and $5.20. Half Heaven (Regal
Classic) made a belated run on the far outside to capture the place at 8-1. The
bay paid $8.10 and $5.40 while completing the $139.50 exacta. Mountain Mambo
(Mt. Livermore) closed strongly on the inside and fell a half-length shy of the
place spot at 12-1. Show was worth $8.70 while the trifecta gave back a healthy
$770.
Quick Queen (Line in the Sand) was next, ending the $9-5-1-11 superfecta that
paid $8,699, and followed by Enter Stage Left
(Lucky Lionel), Sanserif (Ire) (Fasliyev), Silver Charades, Cayuga’s Waters (Langfuhr),
L C Tiffany (Carson City) and Albany County (Forest Wildcat). On the Cat Walk (Honour
and Glory), Sing to the Sky (Northern Afleet), Finlandia (Royal Anthem), Toll
Talker (Bernstein), Forever Smart (Smart Strike) and Pleasant Laughter (Coronado’s
Quest) were scratched.
Joint Aspiration upped her career earnings to $96,576 while moving her career
mark to 13-3-2-0. The chestnut placed in a pair of listed stakes races overseas
previously.
Bred in Great Britain by Messinger Stud Ltd, Joint Aspiration is out of the
winning Welcome Home (Most Welcome [GB]).
