Pamela C. Ziebarth’s HEALTHY ADDICTION (Boston Harbor) led turning for home,
was passed in midstretch by 8-5 choice Island Fashion (Petionville), and fought
back valiantly to register a win in the $235,000
Lady’s Secret Breeders’ Cup H.
(G2) at Santa Anita on Sunday. The winner went right to the lead and carved out
splits of :23, :46 1/5 and 1:10 to the top of the lane before showing her heart in the latter stages,
finishing off 1 1/16 miles over the fast track in 1:42 1/5. Trained by John Sadler and ridden by the
white-hot Garrett Gomez, the winner paid $8.80, $5.60 and $2.80 as the 3-1 third
choice.
Turning for home, Island Fashion challenged with her best run but could not
sustain it, eventually getting nosed for third. Star Parade (Arg) (Parade
Marshal), who was second early before being passed at the top of the lane,
re-rallied on the outside and closed strongly to garner the place. The 8-1 shot
was worth $9 and $5.20 while completing the $39.40 exacta ($1). Island Fashion
returned $2.40 and concluded the $134.60 trifecta. Hollywood Story (Wild Rush)
was another two lengths back and followed by Valentine Dancer (In Excess [Ire]) and Quero Quero
(Royal Academy).
Healthy Addiction was bred in the Bluegrass State by Sequel 98 and fetched a bid
of $100,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She was produced from
the Gone West mare Lady Laika and is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner
Arch Lady (Arch), as well as an unnamed 2005 filly by Cat Thief.
The winner moved her mark to 14-6-5-0 with a bankroll that now stands at
$388,257. She was successful in the Osunitas H. and Adoration H. in her last
pair.
