Sophomores square off in Bryan Station

Last updated: 10/11/05 3:10 PM

Nine sophomore grass runners will line up for Thursday’s featured $150,000
Bryan Station S. at Keeneland. The one-mile turf race is named for the frontier
fort located about six miles east of Lexington, Kentucky. There, near the
intersection of Bryan Station and Briar Hill Road on the North Elkhorn River, a
historic Indian attack occurred during the settlement of the Bluegrass region in the late
1700s.

T. D. VANCE (Rahy) captured the Hall of Fame S. (G2) at Saratoga by a nose in
his last start and will carry co-highweight of 123 pounds in the Bryan Station.
The Graham Motion trainee, who has won four of seven starts, should vie for
favoritism under Edgar Prado. Multiple Grade 3 winner REY DE CAFE (Kingmambo),
who finished a close fifth in the Hall of Fame, merits serious respect under
Rafael Bejarano. The George Arnold charge finished a close third in the
Transylvania S. (G3) earlier this year and won the Bourbon County S. over the Keeneland
turf course last fall. Another contender, THERECOMESATIGER (Tiger
Ridge), is unbeaten in three career starts. The Tom Proctor trainee won his last two on the turf at
Arlington Park.

The field, in post position order, with jockeys and weights, is T. D. Vance;
BROADWAY IDOL (Theatrical [Ire]), Norberto Arroyo Jr., 117; CLASSIC CAMPAIGN (Rahy),
Gary Stevens, 120; TAKE A SHOT (Accelerator), Dane Kobiskie, 117; DRUM MAJOR (Dynaformer),
Jose Santos, 117; Rey De Cafe, 123; FISHY ADVICE (Woodman), Javier Castellano,
117; Therecomesatiger, Mark Guidry, 117; and BASTILLE (Quiet American), Larry
Melancon, 117.
