Live Oak Plantation’s homebred REVVED UP (Sultry Song) tracked the early pace
on the outside, then surged to take command in the stretch en route to an
emphatic two-length victory in Friday’s $163,800
Sycamore Breeders’ Cup S. (G3)
at Keeneland. After loping in sixth through an opening quarter in :25 4/5, the
nearly white eight-year-old was driven forward by rider Garrett Gomez and lay
closer to the pacesetter through pedestrian splits of :52, 1:17, 1:42 2/5 and
2:07. The Christophe Clement charge powered clear in the lane to complete 1 1/2
miles on the firm turf in 2:29 4/5. Sent off as the 5-2 favorite, Revved Up
returned $7.20, $3.60 and $3 while spearheading exotics worth $26.20 (exacta),
$119.40 (trifecta) and $872 (9-8-5-2 superfecta).
Rush Bay (Cozzene) stalked in the early going and swung out five wide for the
drive. Although he was no match for the winner, Rush Bay finished an honorable
runner-up, paying $4.80 and $3.40 as the 7-2 second choice. Another 1 3/4
lengths back came the 5-1 Always First (GB) (Barathea [Ire]), who rallied mildly
for third to give back $4.20. Big Prairie (Danzig), dispatched as an 11-1
outsider, just got up for fourth.
Rounding out the order of finish were Ramazutti (Honor Grades), the mare
Louve Royale (Ire) (Peintre Celebre), Porfido (Chi) (Mash One [Chi]), three-time
Sycamore winner and defending titleholder Rochester (Green Dancer), early
pacesetter Lord Carmen (Ordway) and Single Mon (Maria’s Mon). Host (Tabasco Cat)
was withdrawn.

Revved Up was posting his 10th career stakes win and his third this season,
following scores in the Chris Thomas Turf Classic S. in his 2006 debut at Tampa
Bay Downs and the Bob Harding S. at Monmouth Park last time out. His previous
graded stakes victories came in 2005, with tallies in the Niagara Breeders’ Cup
H. (Can-G2) at Woodbine and the Stars and Stripes Breeders’ Cup Turf H. (G3) at
Arlington Park. His Sycamore coup advanced his record to 33-16-7-1 while
boosting his bankroll to $1,204,803.
Produced by the winning Win Approval (With Approval), Revved Up kicked off
what could be a big Keeneland weekend for his dam. His half-brother, multiple
Grade 2 winner Miesque’s Approval (Miesque’s Son), will try to extend his
winning streak to four in Saturday’s Shadwell Turf Mile S. (G1). Win Approval’s
latest offspring is a 2006 filly by Running Stag.
