Megahertz provides last thrill for local
fans

Michael Bello’s MEGAHERTZ (GB) (Pivotal) offered another rousing performance
in her final start in California, closing from last to first in the stretch to
win Saturday’s $500,000
Yellow Ribbon S. (G1) going away. A 13-time stakes
winner in the Golden State, the Bobby Frankel-trained six-year-old recorded her
second Grade 1 victory and is scheduled to close her stellar career in the
October 29 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) at Belmont Park.

Favored at 1-2, the chestnut mare was reserved far off the early pace as
usual while Smokegetenyoureyes (Smokester) led the way through opening splits of
:24, :48 and 1:12 4/5. Megahertz was in a bit tight leaving the far turn and
split rivals rivals nearing midstretch before swinging out wide under Alex
Solis. She quickly found another gear and blew past her rivals in the final
sixteenth of a mile, drawing clear to a one-length decision and finishing 1 1/4
miles over the firm turf in 2:00 2/5. Megahertz has now earned $2,261,594 from a
33-14-6-5 career line.

The winner paid $3, $2.20 and $2.10 and keyed the $7.50 exacta ($1) with Flip
Flop (Fr) (Zieten), who took second by three parts of a length at 9-1 and
returned $4 and $2.10. Halo Ola (Arg) (Southern Halo) came next at 17-1 odds and
was good for $2.10. The 6-3-1 trifecta gave back $52.30 for $1. Amorama (Fr)
(Sri Pekan), Winendynme (Dynaformer), Cold Cold Woman (GB) (Machiavellian) and Smokegetenyoureyes
rounded out the order of finish.

Bred in Great Britain by Cheveley Park Stud, Megahertz owns victories this
year in the Beverly Hills H. (G2), Santa Ana H. (G2) and Santa Barbara H. (G2),
the latter having been won three years in a row. She also finished an excellent
second by a neck in the Beverly D. S. (G1) at Arlington Park in her start before
the Yellow Ribbon. The first foal out of the winning Heavenly Ray (Rahy), she
has a two-year-old full brother named Heaven Sent who is racing in Europe.
