The 2005 Cartier Racing Awards, Europe’s equivalent to the Eclipse Awards, will be announced Wednesday evening during a
dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in London. The winners are determined by points
earned in Pattern races, a poll of leading racing journalists and a vote by
readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.
The nominees for Horse of the Year are AZAMOUR (Ire) (Night Shift), DIVINE
PROPORTIONS (Kingmambo), HURRICANE RUN (Montjeu [Ire]), SHAMARDAL (Giant’s
Causeway) and WESTERNER (Danehill). The other horse categories are Top Older
Horse, Top Stayer, Top Sprinter, Three-Year-Old Colt, Three-Year-Old Filly,
Two-Year-Old Colt and Two-Year-Old Filly.
In addition to the equine awards, the annual Daily Telegraph Award of Merit
will go to the person who is deemed the one who has done most for European
racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or in the last 12 months.
