Dual Group 1 winner ELECTROCUTIONIST (Red Ransom) has been acquired by
the Godolphin operation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. Previously
owned by Earle I. Mack and trained by Valfredo Valiani in Italy,
Electrocutionist scored his most notable victory when landing the Juddmonte
International S. (Eng-G1) at York in August. In his most recent start, his lone
foray into North America, the four-year-old was promoted to third place via
disqualification in the Canadian International S. (Can-G1) at Woodbine.
Other smart performers recently purchased to carry the famous blue silks
include English Group 3 winner THE GEEZER (Halling), who placed in this
year’s St. Leger (Eng-G1), and several two-year-old colts with classic
aspirations for 2006. The juveniles are PALACE EPISODE (Machiavellian),
hero of the Racing Post Trophy S. (Eng-G1), and WINGED CUPID (In the Wings
[GB]), runner-up in that historically informative race; Solario S. (Eng-G3)
victor OPERA CAPE (Barathea [Ire]); and English Group 3-placed STEPPING UP
(Soviet Star).
In addition, Sheikh Mohammed has promoted to Godolphin four classy
individuals who had been racing under his Darley umbrella: LEO (GB) (Pivotal
[GB]), well-beaten in the recent Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) but a Group 2
winner in England; French Group 1-placed juvenile filly DEVERON (Cozzene);
talented four-year-old sprinter IFFRAAJ (Zafonic); and the sophomore
GOODRICKE (Bahamian Bounty), who earned his way upward by taking the
Sprint Cup S. (Eng-G1).
“We are hoping that these
horses will add strength to the stable for next season,” Godolphin Racing Manager Simon Crisford
said. “In keeping with
our global ambitions, most of our new horses will have international targets
over the next few years.”
Electrocutionist and the other recruits will winter in
Dubai, as is customary for Godolphin.
