Mrs. Revere

Live Oak Plantation's MY TYPHOON (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) took command

leaving the far turn and bravely withstood the late rally of Isla Cozzene (Cozzene)

to win Saturday's $166,950

Mrs. Revere S. (G2) by a nose at Churchill Downs. The

Bill Mott-trained filly broke tardily and traveled wide under Robby Albarado

before launching her rally from just off the pace. She went on to complete 8

1/2 furlongs over the firm turf in 1:43 1/5, earning her first graded win in the

process.

Purchased for $2.9 million as a weanling, My Typhoon got off to an awkward

beginning as Winning Season (Lemon Drop Kid) sprinted to the fore and set splits

of :24 2/5, :49 2/5 and 1:13 3/5 for six furlongs. The eventual winner quickly

recovered to closely stalk the pacesetter while well off the rail, and she easily

cruised past to assume the lead approaching the top of the stretch. The

three-year-old held a two-length advantage after a mile in 1:37 1/5, but Isla

Cozzene made the chestnut work hard with a strong challenge on the far outside

in deep stretch.

Sent off the 8-5 favorite against six sophomore rivals, My Typhoon paid

$5.40, $3 and $2.20. Isla Cozzene was the betting public's 5-2 second choice and

gave back $3.40 and $2.40 for her commendable performance. It was 1 1/2 lengths

back to Silver Cup (Ire) (Almutawakel [GB]), who loomed a threatening presence

in upper stretch but lacked the needed rally as the 3-1 third choice. She

returned $2.40. The exacta totaled $14.80, trifecta $37.40 and the 9-3-5-7

superfecta ($1), with Winning Season in fourth, was worth $124.90.

Flying Circle (Pembroke), Thatswhatimean (Belong to Me) and Be Envied (Lemon

Drop Kid) rounded out the order of finish. Elle Runaway (El Prado [Ire]) and

Manila Fudge (Outflanker) were both scratched.

Bred in Ireland by Sunderland Holdings, My Typhoon was a 2002 Tattersalls graduate and is out of the 1993 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1)

winner, Urban Sea (Miswaki), who earned more than $1.6 million. The 16-year-old

mare is also the dam of European champion and multiple highweight Galileo (Ire) (Sadler's

Wells), highweight and multiple Group 1 winner Black Sam Bellamy (Sadler's

Wells), Group 3 winners Urban Ocean (Bering [GB]) and All Too Beautiful (Sadler's

Wells), and Melikah (Ire) (Lammtarra), who placed in both the English (Eng-G1)

and Irish Oaks (Ire-G1).

My Typhoon, whose only off-the-board finish came in her second career start,

improved her overall mark to 9-4-2-2 and has now earned $411,339. She captured

the Virginia Oaks and Hilltop Breeders' Cup S. earlier this year and counts the

Garden City Breeders' Cup S. (G1) and Lake Placid S. (G2) among her four

black-type placings.
