Grade 1 winner ROMAN RULER (Fusaichi Pegasus) has been retired from racing
after missing Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) due to a foot condition. The
three-year-old will enter stud at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm near Lexington, Kentucky,
where he will stand for $30,000.

At two, the dark bay colt won the Norfolk S. (G2) and Best Pal S. (G2) before
finishing a troubled fifth as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
After missing this year’s Triple Crown, he won the Dwyer S. (G2) and Haskell
Invitational H. (G1) before finishing third in the Travers S. (G1) and second in
the Goodwood Breeders’ Cup H. (G2) in what turned out to be his final start.

Roman Ruler, trained by Bob Baffert, won five of 10 starts and earned
$1,220,800.

Out of the Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan, Roman Ruler is a half-brother to
Grade 1 winner El Corredor (Mr. Greeley), who entered stud at Hill ‘n’ Dale in
2002. He is also a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Silver Tornado (Maria’s Mon).

Roman Ruler was purchased for $500,000 at the 2003 Keeneland September
Yearling Sale.
