Top Flight

Last updated: 11/25/05 6:12 PM

Just when it looked like Bohemian Lady (Carson City) would make a
wire-to-wire run, Godolphin Racing’s STELLAR JAYNE (Wild Rush) rallied back into
contention and swept past her rival to win Friday’s $150,000
Top Flight H.
(G2)
at Aqueduct by a half-length. Closing from just off the pace under jockey
Jerry Bailey, the three-time Grade 1 winner captured her final career start and
will head to the breeding shed with earnings of $1,534,964.

Bohemian Lady led through splits of :22 3/5,
:45 and 1:09 2/5 before Stellar Jayne, who sat a close fourth down the
backstretch, dug in to get up in time, winning the
one-mile affair in 1:35 4/5 over the fast track.

Sent off as the 3-5 favorite, the gray four-year-old filly returned $3.40,
$2.80 and $2.10 while leading exotics of $16 (exacta), $68 (trifecta) and $578
for the 6-1-2-8 superfecta. Bohemian Lady gave back $5.40 and $4 at 8-1 for the
place, and Seeking the Ante (Seeking the Gold) hit the wire another 4 1/4 lengths farther
back to pay $3.60. Cloakof Vagueness (El Prado [Ire]), A Song in A Minor (Real Quiet), Ender’s Sister (A.P. Indy), Last Song (Unbridled’s Song) and
Areek (Deputy Minister) rounded out the order of finish.

Bred in Kentucky by Wind Hill Farm, Stellar Jayne is out of the Grade 3-placed mare To the Hunt (Relaunch) and is
a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Starrer (Dynaformer). Winner of the
Mother Goose S. (G1) and Gazelle H. (G1) at three, she wrapped up last year’s
campaign with a third in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and was then sold for
$3.6 million at the 2004 Keeneland November sale.

Returning to action this year for trainer Saeed bin Suroor, Stellar Jayne
recorded wins in the Misty Galore S. and Ruffian H. (G1) before finishing fourth
in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. The classy filly retires with a record of
22-9-2-3.
