After the fireworks of Tattersalls’
December Sales, Agence Francaise’s equivalent continued in a
similar vein at Deauville on Saturday with Crispin de Moubray
securing the stakes-winning LADY VETTORI (Vettori) on
behalf of Dietrich von Boetticher’s Gestut Ammerland for a
session-high 500,000. Offered by Haras du Berlais as Hip no.114,
the eight-year-old’s residual value was enhanced by a Montjeu
(Ire) cover.
“She was a very good race filly, winning her first
five starts as a juvenile, including the Prix du Calvados (Fr-G3),
and she was also third in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Fr-G1),” de
Moubray commented. “She’s a lovely looking young mare whose first
foal is a winner. Mr. von Boetticher wants to upgrade the quality
of his broodmare band, and this is the right kind of mare to buy.
She is in foal to a top stallion, but I don’t know who she will
go to next, probably something from the Danzig line.”
RUSSIAN MUSE (Machiavellian), a four-year-old stakes-placed mare,
realized the second highest price of the day when knocked down to
Emerald Bloodstock for 140,000. Consigned by Haras de
Fresnay-le-Buffard as Hip 209, she was sold in foal to Danehill
Dancer.
Selling continues on Sunday, and there are
several highlights. Heading them is the second draft from His
Highness the Aga Khan, including Hip 345, the six-year-old mare
KALANA (Rainbow Quest). From the family of Kahyasi,
she is carrying a foal by Daylami (Ire).
