Due to the ongoing redevelopment of Doncaster Racecourse, officials at
Doncaster Bloodstock Sales Limited have announced that the dates for the 2006 St.
Leger Yearling Sales have been moved up by one week. The auction will be held
over three days from August 29-31.
DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby sees some
advantages to the new dates.
“We are really quite pleased with this move for a
number of reasons,” Beeby explained. “Firstly, it totally removes any conflict with Keeneland’s September Sale with which we have directly clashed in the past and
have preceded by a week in recent years. That has meant that a number of major
buyers have either had to miss our sale entirely or leave early. The new dates
mean they can fully attend both sales for the first time with ease if they
wish.”
The sale is likely to take place in a new sales complex being constructed
at Doncaster.
“We are making real progress on our new sales complex plans,” Beeby added. “There are one or two small details to be ironed out with the
Doncaster Council but, with the right attitude from both sides, I am sure they
can be resolved. We have set a deadline of the end of January for finite
decisions and then it will be full steam ahead.”
