A colt by Sequalo elicited a bid of A$75,000 from Liam Birchley to top
Wednesday’s session of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Produced by the Dieu d’Or mare Dancing Bandit, the chestnut was consigned by
Raheen Stud as Lot 1079 on behalf of Jamie Buckley.
“We expected to get around A$45,000 to A$50,000 for him before the sale,”
said Tim Nolan, son of Raheen principals Basil and Dianne. “When he was taken
out for inspection 30 to 40 times, we began to think he would do better than
that.”
In all, 139 yearlings sold during Wednesday’s session for an aggregate of
A$2,275,500 and an average price of A$16,371, and the day’s clearance rate was
73 percent. It’s been a record week for the auction company.
“(Thursday) we will pass A$90 million in gross for the entire sale week —
that’s a marvelous effort,” said Magic Millions Managing Director David
Chester. “Before the sale started last week I was hoping for A$80 million.”
The company’s chairman Gerry Harvey said he could only see this sale gross
increase in 2007.
“Next year we will top A$110 million — we’ll get many more of the country’s
best yearlings when vendors and breeders realize this is the place to sell
yearlings,” he said.
The seventh and final session of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling
Sale will begin Thursday. Complete results and catalogs are available on www.magicmillions.com.au.
