An evenly matched field of seven will go postward in the $150,000 All
American H. (G3) at Golden Gate on Monday. Although we were disappointed by
BUZZARDS BAY (Marco Bay) in his most recent outing on Sunshine Millions Day, we
will once again side with the talented chestnut to cross the wire first in here.
Trained by Ron Ellis, Buzzards Bay will be making his third start off the
layoff and should be plenty fit after running nine furlongs in his last. The
four-year-old has experience over the local surface, winning the 2005 Golden
Gate Derby, and appears to be rounding into his peak form cycle. With a great
deal of tactical speed, the ‘Buzz should be in perfect striking position as they
turn for home. Jose Valdivia Jr. makes the trek up the coast to pilot the colt.
It’s hard to fault TRICKEY TREVOR (Demaloot Demashoot), and he will be tough to upend for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Russell Baze. The
speedy seven-year-old has really blossomed since switching to two-turn racing,
including three wins in his last four outings. The dark bay sports a 33-17-4-3
career mark, a perfect six-for-six record over an off track, and has come out a
victor in five of his six lifetime starts at Golden Gate.
Late runner ADREAMISBORN (Kris S.) has enjoyed most of his recent major
success on the sod, but the gelding has a big chance to earn a nice paycheck in
this contest. One of a trio conditioned by Hollendorfer, the dark bay has a lot
of back class on the main track, including a win in the 2004 Longacres Mile H.
(G3), and he appears to be in very good form as of late. We think the gelding
has a chance of winning, but would prefer to use him on the bottom of the exotics.
MELANYHASTHEPAPERS (Game Plan) is consistent if nothing else, and the gritty
five-year-old will likely be hanging around for a piece of the pie in this fray.
The Washington-bred beat just one horse in the San Pasqual H. (G2) at Santa
Anita last try, but was beaten only 2 1/2 lengths for the top prize. The knock on
the dark bay is that he has just four wins from 22 lifetime starts, and it seems
wise to restrict his use to completing exotics.
ACE BLUE (Brz) (Coax Me Clyde) has missed the board in three straight races
and needs an immediate form reversal to challenge these. Four prior, the
six-year-old was a nice second in the San Diego H. (G2), but he has been just a
shell of himself since. We don’t know what to expect and will just watch this
time.
GREELEY’S GALAXY (Mr. Greeley) hasn’t crossed the finish line first in nearly
a year, and it’s hard to endorse the colt at this point. Trained by Warren Stute,
the chestnut was a recent fourth in the Strub S. (G2) with a dream trip and
third in the San Fernando Breeders’ Cup S. (G2), and now must face his elders
for the first time in his nine-race career. We can’t envision the four-year-old
being there late.
MOLENGAO (Brz) (Royal Academy) earned a career best BRIS Speed figure (101) most
recently when topping allowance foes at Santa Anita. The five-year-old has ability,
a strong late kick and the advantageous rail draw, but we still think he’s up
against it in here.
