Oaklawn Park canceled racing Saturday due to a winter storm which left the
track in an unsafe condition.
“In order to maintain our hopes of racing on Sunday and Monday, we need to
stay off the track today,” General Manager Eric Jackson said. “We’re going to
need some help from Mother Nature right now.”
Jackson added that the track was water-logged due to precipitation that fell
overnight.
“We can’t both race and work the track at the same time,” Jackson explained.
“So, in order to keep up hopes for the remainder of the weekend, we are going to
close for live racing today.”
Saturday’s feature, the $50,000 Pippin S., has been rescheduled for Monday
and will join the $250,000 Southwest S. for three-year-olds on the Presidents’
Day program. The Hot Springs, Arkansas, track will also host the $50,000 Martha
Washington S. for three-year-old fillies on Sunday.
