Tiznow colt drills a quarter-mile in :20 3/5
A colt by Tiznow, cataloged as Hip No. 78, drilled a quarter-mile in :20 3/5,
the fastest work at the distance in Sunday’s under tack show for the February 28
Fasig-Tipton Calder Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. Consigned by Hoby
and Layna Kight, agent, the bay Kentucky-bred juvenile is the first foal from
the winning Hennessy mare Evil, who is a full sister to stakes winner Handsome
Hunk and a half-sister to Prussian Blue (Polish Navy), the 1997 Carleton F.
Burke H. (G2) winner and a multiple stakes victor in France. The Tiznow colt was
purchased by Don Mattox for $200,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling
Sale.
A total of thirteen runners claimed the fastest one furlong move in :10 1/5,
with two of those working on the turf. Posting that time on the main track were Hips 52 and 63, both colts by Orientate;
Hip 57, a Distorted Humor colt; Hip 61, a Buddha colt; Hip 74,
a filly by El Corredor; Hip 108, a filly by Grand Slam; Hip 124, a colt by Dixie Union;
Hip 149, a colt by Include; Hip 185, a Minardi colt; Hip 191, a colt by Yonaguska; and Hip 266, a
colt by Silver Deputy. The turf workers were Hip 212, a Pulpit filly, and
Hip 242, an Unbridled’s Song colt.
The sale’s top one furlong move was registered in last week’s under tack show, when
Hip 153, a son of Forestry, stopped the timer in a swift :9 4/5. Last week’s
best quarter-mile time was :21 1/5, turned in by Hip 233, an El Corredor colt,
and Hip 274, a filly by Songandaprayer.
A total of 308 juveniles are catalogued for the sale, which commences on
Tuesday at 11 a.m. (EST).
