Wonder seeks Davona; Old Hat is small but contentious

Last updated: 2/2/06 7:30 PM

Gulfstream Park's stakes extravaganza on Saturday includes a pair of events

for three-year-old fillies, the Davona Dale S. (G2) and Old Hat S. (G3). The 1

1/8-mile Davona Dale has drawn a field of seven and marks the seasonal bow for

Demoiselle S. (G2) winner WONDER LADY ANNE L (Real Quiet). Third in both the

Tempted S. (G3) and Astoria S. at shorter distances, the Richard Dutrow-conditioned

miss found her best form when stretching out to two turns for the first time in

the Demoiselle, winning the nine-furlong event by 2 3/4 lengths.

Stakes winners WAIT A WHILE (Maria's Mon), STOLEN PRAYER (Songandaprayer) and

MIA'S REFLECTION (Halo's Image) are also entered, and BUSHFIRE (Louis

Quatorze), who exits an exciting allowance victory earlier in the meet, will

make her stakes debut.

The complete field, from inside out with jockeys, is Mia's Reflection, Manoel

Cruz; TEAMMATE (A.P. Indy), Cornelio Velasquez; MEADOW SKIPPIN (Skip Away), Mark

Guidry; Stolen Prayer, Eddie Castro; Wait a While, John Velazquez; Bushfire,

Edgar Prado; and Wonder Lady Anne L, Rafael Bejarano.

Only six will contest the Old Hat, but the 6 1/2-furlong event appears wide

open. MIRACULOUS MISS (Mr. Greeley), who is three for three overall, will make

her first start since winning the Valley Stream S. (G3) in November. Maryland

Juvenile Filly Championship S. heroine SOMETHINABOUTBETTY (Forestry) will also

be making her first appearance of the new year. MISTY ROSETTE (Stormin Fever)

remained unbeaten with a sharp 3 3/4-length victory in the Sandpiper S. at Tampa

Bay Downs last out. The undefeated YACHATS (Forest Camp) makes her first stakes

attempt for trainer Todd Pletcher and exits a solid 2 3/4-length allowance score

over the track. The rest of the field is made up of Grade 3-placed SWAP FLIPAROO

(Exchange Rate) and maiden winner SMART N PRETTY (Elusive Quality).
