EINSTEIN (Brz) (Spend a Buck), who gamely captured the Gulfstream Park
Breeders’ Cup S. (G1) last out in his stakes debut, headlines a cast of nine in
the $100,000 Pan American H. (G3), which is held over 1 1/2 grassy miles. A
Southern Hemisphere-born four-year-old, the Helen Pitts-conditioned youngster
has raced against older horses and recorded three straight wins this meet.
Rafael Bejarano will ride. Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup runner-up GO DEPUTY
(Deputy Minister) and English Group 3 winner SABRE D’ARGENT (Kris S.) are among
the challengers.
The Orchid H. (G3) drew a good-looking field of eight distaffers for 12
furlongs on the grass. Defending winner HONEY RYDER (Lasting Approval), who went
on to capture the E.P. Taylor S. (Can-G1) and Glens Falls H. (G3) last season, is
the 120-pound highweight, but she’ll face some tough foes in OLAYA (Theatrical
[Ire]), ASTI (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), DYNAMITE LASS (Dynaformer), NOBLE STELLA
(Ger) (Monsun) and KATE WINSLET (Signal Tap).
The other stakes on the card are the $100,000
Artax H., which will be held at
7 1/2 furlongs and features the 2006 bow of Grade 1 winner GYGISTAR
(Prospector’s Music); the $75,000
Lure S., which will be contested at a mile on
the turf; and the $75,000
Spectacular Bid S. for three-year-olds at 6 1/2
furlongs.
