Hip No. 1237, a chestnut colt by Broken Vow, sold to Tom McCrocklin, agent
for Robert and Lawana Low, for $180,000 in the final moments on Friday to top the
final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds
in Training near Ocala, Florida. Consigned by Nick de Meric, agent, the February
11 juvenile is out of the winning Puddy Cat (Mountain Cat). The colt’s
second dam is 1985 Falls City S. (G3) heroine Donut’s Pride (Nodouble).
The Florida bred RNA’ed for $19,000 at the OBS August Yearling Sale. He
clocked a furlong in :10 3/5 at the under tack show on April 22.
The second-highest price went to Hip 996, a filly by Prime Timber named PRIME
CATCH, who sold for $160,000 to Hal Earnhardt. Consigned by Indian Prairie Ranch,
agent, the February 11 miss is out of the winning Salt Lake mare Lucky Lady
Lucy, who is a half-sister to the multiple stakes-placed Wink Road (Ginistrelli).
The Florida-bred was previously acquired for $30,000 at the OBS August
Yearling Sale. Prime Catch logged an eighth in a bullet :10 2/5 on April 22.
Gross for the final session increased by 4.6 percent, as 178 two-year-olds
sold for $4,623,600 compared to 167 selling for $4,422,200 last year. The
average price declined 1.9 percent, from $26,480 to $25,975. Median price fell
15 percent, from $15,000 to $12,750. The buyback rate was 23.3 percent.
Total gross increased by 11.6 percent for the sale, with 756 horses selling
for a record $24,565,500 compared to 775 that were purchased in 2005 for
$22,017,800. Average price for the sale was a record $32,494, up 14.4 percent
from last year when the average price was $28,410. The median price remained
steady at $17,000 while the buyback rate was 22.5 percent.
The top price for the sale was Hip 879, a Songandaprayer colt named LAKE
ISLAND, who went to Zayat Stables for $460,000 on Thursday.
