A group of 10 will go postward in the $400,000 Lone Star Park H. (G3) on
Monday. MAGNUM (Arg) (El Compinche) is listed as the 9-5 morning line favorite
and appears to have all the credentials to take this race, so we’ll side with
the choice. Trained by Darrell Vienna, late blooming five-year-old has posted three straight
excellent BRIS Speed numbers and should get an ideal pace scenario to set up his
strong late kick. Pat Valenzuela will ride the dark bay.

COSMONAUT (Lemon Drop Kid) has blossomed into form since switching to the
barn of Patrick Biancone, and the gray is not without a shot at the win in here.
The four-year-old was racing almost exclusively on the turf until
recently, when the colt posted two big efforts on the main surface. We’re not
certain if he’s faced this caliber of horse before, but we love the connections
and will use him at long odds. Julien Leparoux will guide the colt.

PREACHINATTHEBAR (Silver Charm) has won his last pair, the Tokyo City Cup H. (G3)
and Texas Mile S. (G3), and has never been better for Bob Baffert. The
five-year-old sports a nice 10-5-0-1 at this trip and has won his only outing at
Lone Star. We envision short odds on the gray and will try to beat him for the
win, but will include him in all of the gimmicks.

STOCKHOLDER (Bertrando) endured a very wide trip in the Texas Mile and was
probably the best horse on that day, but fell a neck short. The hard luck
six-year-old has drawn outside again, which will likely hurt his chances for the
win. Another horse to include in the exotics.

TEXCESS (In Excess [Ire]) has morphed into a closer since switching to the
barn of Mike Mitchell, which may be a good thing with the expected lively pace
in here. The gelding hasn’t won since 2004, so it’s hard to back him for the top
spot, but anything resembling his last pair should earn the four-year-old a
paycheck.

DOMINGUIN (Per) (Domingo) will likely set the pace in here and see how long
his speed will carry him for trainer Dante Zanelli. The dark bay was not much of
a factor late in the Texas Mile, but could be one to watch if allowed to dictate
the tempo early. The colt could certainly stay on for a minor award late at huge
odds.

NAKAYAMA KUN (Known Fact) often shows good late energy but lacks consistency,
so it’s hard to get very excited about his chances. The bay’s best could find
him on the board. REAL DANDY (Yankee Victor) had a nice allowance win in advance
of this but faces infinitely better in here. He’s not without a shot to earn a
check.

WATCHEM SMOKEY (Alphabet Soup) and WISHINGITWAS (Sandpit [Brz]) are both nice
horses that have an affinity for the winners’ circle, but could get cooked in
the early pace. We can’t recommend either one.
