High winds prompt Aqueduct to cancel on Sunday

Last updated: 10/29/06 6:03 PM

One day after adverse weather conditions forced the cancellation of
Saturday’s entire card at Aqueduct, high winds again prompted the cancellation
of racing after the 1ST race on Sunday.

“For the safety of everyone and the horses, we decided to cancel,” jockey
John Velazquez said. “It’s pretty rough around the turns, and to have control of
the horses, it makes it difficult. The track was beautiful. It’s just that the
wind was way too strong to have control of the horses.”

Fans are encouraged to keep their programs, which may be exchanged for a free
program at any day during the next two weeks.

Aqueduct has remained open for simulcasting on all floors until 4:30 p.m.
(ET), then on the second floor from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The two stakes slated for Sunday — the $100,000 Nashua S. (G3) and the
$100,000 Tempted S. (G3) — will now be transferred to Friday’s card.

Also canceling live racing on Sunday were Philadelphia Park in Pennsylvania
along with Woodbine and Fort Erie in Canada.
