No Tolerance for the competition
Leading wire to wire in Saturday’s $150,000
Robert F. Carey Memorial H.
(G3), NO TOLERANCE (Afternoon Deelites) gamely earned his first graded stakes
win.
A pupil of Michael Campbell, the bay five year-old gelding started in the
post 6 at 5-1 odds on the firm turf. At the bell, No Tolerance surged
to the early lead with the trainer’s son, Jessie Campbell, in the irons, and set
early fractions of :24, :47 4/5, 1:11 2/5 and 1:23 1/5. On the far turn,
Rapid Proof (Fast Play) began to mount his challenge from the third position
and under an onslaught of pressure, the Florida-bred refused to give up the
lead, finding another gear deep in the stretch and battling on eagerly to win by
a head in 1:35 2/5. No Tolerance recorded his 10th career win for owners Karen and Mike Reynolds.
No Tolerance rewarded his supporters with $12.40, $6 and $5 while improving
his career earnings to $336,863 and lifetime record to 34-10-8-7. The runner-up
returned $14 and $7.60
at 20-1, and
Come on Jazz (Jambalaya Jazz), who trailed in third by three-parts of a length, gave back $4.40. The
exacta paid $144.60, and the trifecta richly rewarded at $865.40. The 6-1-3-8 superfecta,
with Fort Prado (El Prado [Ire]) on the bottom, was worth $1,719.40 for $1. Cloudy’s Knight (Lord Avie),
Scooter Roach (Mi Cielo), 6-5 favorite Therecomesatiger (Tiger Ridge) and Grafton (Rahy)
completed the order of finish.
Gigawatt (Wild Again) was withdrawn.
No Tolerance, who annexed the Mister Gus S. three prior, was bred by Gary Pickel and originally sold at
the 2003 OBS April for $42,000. He is the third
registered foal out of the bay mare Cope Lady (Copelan), who is also the
dam of an unnamed yearling colt by Tiger Ridge.
