Doncaster Bloodstock Sales Company signed off for the year on a high note
Tuesday when Kern Lillingston Associates paid 100,000 guineas for the juvenile
ALGOL (Kyllachy). A sharp winner in a competitive York nursery last time out in
early October, Algol owns a 7-3-1-2 mark. He was consigned by White Lea Stables
and Graham Wylie’s Transcend Bloodstock as Hip No. 271.
DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby reflected on the company’s best-ever year
of trading. “It was most appropriate to finish on a high note today, as 2006 has
proved to be the best year in DBS’ 44-year history with a record turnover of
37,001,040 guineas, which rose by 20 percent and a record average of 13,061
guineas, which was up 11 percent,” he said. “Our three flagship sales all
returned record figures. The St Leger Yearling Sales is surely the success story
of the bloodstock world and rose again for the ninth consecutive year — the
only major European Yearling Sales with this to its credit.
“These are exciting times for DBS,” Beeby continued. “We are regularly
returning premium prices for a whole range of horses and our graduates are
consistently winning at the highest level.”
