Warning Zone burns rivals in first division of the Generous
Rising Sun Racing Stable’s WARNING ZONE (Chester House) offered a three-deep
rally leaving the far turn in the first division of Friday’s $75,000
Generous S.
(G3) at Hollywood Park and blew by the leaders in the final sixteenth of a mile,
drawing clear to a 2 1/4-length decision while notching his first stakes
victory. Trained by John Sadler, the two-year-old colt covered a mile over the
firm turf in 1:36 2/5 with Corey Nakatani.
Off as the 2-1 second choice against seven rivals, Warning Zone settled into
fifth behind early splits in :24 3/5, :49 and 1:12 4/5 before asserting himself.
He returned $6.60, $3.40 and $2.60. Unusual Suspect (Unusual Heat) rallied up
the rail and was in a bit tight in deep stretch before grabbing second, but he
wasn’t going to catch the winner with his belated rally and gave back $5.40 and
$4 at nearly 6-1. Man to Man (Manndar [Ire]), who was off at nearly 10-1, was
promoted from fourth to third after being interfered with by the maiden Private
Wind (Wind Whipper), who was demoted from third to seventh for drifting in and out through the
stretch drive. Show paid $5. The $1 exotics totaled $17.80 (exacta), the $78.30
(trifecta) and $869.40 for the 8-1-7-6 superfecta which included Deadshot Keen
(Ire) (Invincible Spirit) in fourth. Optari (Diesis [GB]), the 2-1 favorite,
came next under the wire and was followed by Quietly Mine (Belong to Me) and
Varsity Blues (Ire) (Fasliyev). Golden Balls (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) was
withdrawn.
Bred in Virginia by Edward Evans, Warning Zone was purchased for $60,000 at
the 2005 Keeneland September sale and improved his record to 4-2-2-0 with
$100,100 in earnings. He broke his maiden two starts previously and entered the
Generous off a good second in the Pinjara S. at Santa Anita. The bay colt is out
of the winning Storm Bird mare Migrate.
