Grade 3 winner PRAYING FOR CASH (Songandaprayer) has been retired and will enter stud in 2007 at
Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds near Ocala, Florida. The three-year-old is
owned in partnership with former college basketball star Bobby Hurley and is
currently being syndicated. No stud fee was announced.
As a two-year-old, Praying for Cash broke his maiden by 4 1/2 lengths in his
debut, running five furlongs in :57 4/5 at Monmouth Park. This year, he dueled
for the early lead before defeating Latent Heat (Maria’s Mon) by 1 1/4 lengths
in the Long Branch Breeders’ Cup S. (G3). In his next start, he set the early
tempo before finishing second to Bluegrass Cat in the Haskell
Invitational S. (G1). The Florida-bred bay also finished second in the Coronado’s Quest S. He
retires with a record of 8-3-2-1, $357,630.
Praying for Cash is out of the unraced West by West mare Cash No Credit and
is from the same female family as multiple stakes winner and $749,891-earner In
the Curl (Shelter Half).
“(He) had outstanding early speed and he clearly carried it over a distance
of ground,” farm co-owner Dean De Renzo said. “We see him as a superb fit for
Florida, and the entire East Coast.”
