Expect some fireworks in Newmarket over the coming days as the Tattersalls December
Breeding Stock Sale comes under the
hammer. The sale kicks off Monday morning and first-day highlights look
set to be headed by Lot 1695, SPINNING QUEEN (Spinning World), a three-year-old
who ran away with the Sun Chariot S.(Eng-G1) at Newmarket in September by nine
lengths. Also drawing attention on the first day is Lot 1683, SHORT SKIRT (Diktat), offered from Sir Michael Stoute’s
stable by owner John Greetham. The three-year-old miss won the St Simon S. (Eng-G3) at Newbury since the
catalog’s publication.
Other outstanding racecourse performers on offer during
the week include Lot 2357, this season’s Preis der Diana (German Oaks) (Ger-G1) winner, ALMERITA (Ger) (Medicean), consigned by Ronald Rasucher for Dr. Christoph
Berglar; Lot 1694, LA CUCARACHA (Piccolo), the 2005 Nunthorpe S.
(Eng-G1) heroine; Lot 1720, DONNA BLINI (Bertolini), the 2005 Cheveley Park S.
(Eng-G1) winner; and Lot 1545, POUT (Namid), this year’s Ridgewood Pearl S.
(Ire-G2) winner.
Tuesday features a dispersal of eight fillies and mares from Roger Baines’
Somerset-based Britton House Stud. Lot 1977, the 13-year-old MACKIE (Summer
Squall), is offered with an Unbridled’s Song cover. The dam of four black-type
performers, she sold for a record $5 million at the 2000 Keeneland January Sale.
The now 16-year-old SOLO DE LUNE (Law Society), Lot 1979, is the dam of Group
1
winner Cerulean Sky (Ire), Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) runner-up L’Ancresse (Ire) and a Dalakhani yearling filly who sold for 700,000 guineas on
Monday. Solo de Lune is offered with a Montjeu (Ire) cover, while her winning
four-year-old daughter, Carisolo (GB) (Dubai Millennium), appears two lots later.
Carisolo is followed into the ring by her unraced two-year-old half-sister, Danoise
(Danehill).
Lot 1974 is EXCITING TIMES (Jeune Homme), offered from Kiltinan Stud
for Xavier and Natalie Bozo as one of Dubawi’s first book of mares. Her first
two foals are Beverly D. S.(G1) winner Gorella (Fr) (Grape Tree Road [GB]) and Group 1-placed Porto
Santo (Fr) (Kingsalsa).
The star of the whole show could potentially be Lot 1945, 2004 Cheveley Park S. (Eng-G1) winner MAGICAL
ROMANCE (Barathea [Ire]) offered with a
Pivotal cover. Owned by Con Wilson, she is consigned from Stephen and Louise Kemble’s Elms Stud. The four-year-old is a three-parts sister to this year’s
Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1) and Irish Oaks (Ire-G1) heroine Alexandrova (Sadler’s
Wells).
Lot 2269, HALLAND PARK LASS (Spectrum), is sure to show a handsome profit on
the 12,000gns she cost 12 months ago. She is the dam of this year’s
Middle Park S. (Eng-G1) and Prix Morny (Fr-G1) winner Dutch Art (Medicean). Likewise,
SPECIFICALLY (Sky Classic), Lot 2273, the dam of this year’s English One Thousand
Guineas (Eng-G1) winner Speciosa (Danehill Dancer) and a half-sister to Champion S. (Eng-G1)
heroine Pride (Peintre Celebre), is likely to show a huge advance on the 50,000gns she cost at Goffs’
2004 November Sale.
“The foal trade was extraordinary and it gives cause for optimism for the
four days of breeding stock to come,” Tattersalls Marketing Director
Jimmy George said. “Everyone says this is the best breeding stock catalog we have
had for a long time and we are delighted with the quality. There are some
obvious highlights, including the Britton House Stud dispersal, a number of
classic and Group 1-performing fillies in training, as well as enormous depth to
the broodmares on offer.”
The sale runs Monday through Friday.
