Due to a winter storm that is expected to drop up to 10 inches of snow in the
region, Hawthorne canceled its nine-race card on Friday.
This is the second consecutive card Hawthorne has lost due to wintry weather
conditions, and it is the third cancellation of the fall meet. Racing was called
off on November 16 due to high winds.
According to Hawthorne officials, the track crew will work the surface
overnight, and it will be open for training from 6-9 a.m. (CST) on Saturday.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 30s.
All of the Thursday and Friday races will be brought back as “extras,” and
additional races will be added to upcoming programs to make up for the
cancellations.
Due to high winds in the area, Beulah Park canceled its eight-race card on
Friday.
Track officials hope to resume live racing at the Grove City, Ohio, track on
Saturday.
