A record 2,933 lots, including four stallion shares, have been cataloged for
the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. The eight-day auction will take
place from January 8 through January 15 with sessions beginning each day at 10
a.m. (EST).
The total number exceeds by 425 last year’s record total of 2,508. The sale
is comprised of 1,152 broodmares, 361 broodmare prospects, 224 racing or
broodmare prospects, 90 racing prospects, 1,011 yearlings, 59 racing or stallion
prospects, 27 stallion prospects, five stallions and four stallion shares.
Broodmares in foal to such notable sires as Awesome Again, Dixieland Band,
Dynaformer, El Prado (Ire), Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Gone West, Johannesburg,
Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Rahy, Silver Deputy, Thunder Gulch and Tiznow will be
offered.
Also cataloged are mares in foal to first-year stallions Afleet Alex,
Consolidator, Eddington, Eurosilver, Forest Danger, Leroidesanimaux (Brz),
Limehouse, Offlee Wild, Pollard’s Vision, Powerscourt (GB), Rock Hard Ten, Roman
Ruler, Saint Liam and Southern Image, among others.
The complete dispersal of horses owned by F. Eugene Dixon Jr. will be
featured on January 9.
“The January sale has come into its own as a truly international auction,
which is reflected in last year’s record-breaking growth,” Keeneland Director of
Sales Geoffrey Russell said. “We continue to expand the duration of the sale to
accommodate our horsemen, who have come to view January as an extension of the
November sale. This is a solid catalog which offers in particular a good
selection of young racing and broodmare prospects.”
At the 2006 January sale, 1,624 horses sold for $72,174,900, for an average
of $44,443 and a median of $16,000. In addition, a breeding right sold for
$150,000 and three stallion shares sold for $4,200.
