California Breeders’ Champion S. runner-up ONEBADKITTY (Street Cry [Ire])
will face seven sophomore filly rivals in Saturday’s $100,000 California Oaks at
Golden Gate Fields. Trained by Brian Koriner, the California-bred lass will face
open rivals and stretch out to two turns for the first time in the 1 1/16-mile
test. Russell Baze will pick up the mount aboard the Southern California
invader.
Recent allowance winner LADY RAILRIDER (Ride the Rails) and Corte Madera S.
runner-up CHRISTMAS SHIP (Montbrook) rate as top challengers. The Steve Specht-trained
Lady Railrider placed in the Bay Meadows Debutante S. last year and has compiled
a 3-1-2-0 mark over Golden Gate’s Tapeta track. Christmas Ship, who hails from
Jerry Hollendorfer’s stable, exits a close third to Lady Railrider in the
aforementioned allowance.
Last-out maiden winner TWO THIRDS VICTORY (Peteski’s Charm) will lead the
post parade with jockey Macario Rodriguez. Next comes SHY BABY (Out of Place),
Mario Gutierrez; SEATTLE SMOOTH (Quiet American), Martin Pedroza; Onebadkitty;
SKY MYSTIC (Sky Mesa), David Lopez; Lady Railrider, Frank Alvarado; Christmas
Ship, Chad Schvaneldt; and TWELVE TWENTY TWO (Kafwain), Jose Valdivia Jr.
All runners will carry 121 pounds.
