Jockey Erick Rodriguez was transported to nearby Sinai Hospital in Baltimore
for X-rays on his left knee and abdomen after he was thrown from his mount
during the running of the 6TH race at Pimlico Race Course on Sunday.
Listen Up (Tiznow) spurted to the early lead under Rodriguez in the
six-furlong test on the main track and had just surrendered the lead to eventual
winner Puskita (Indian Charlie) when she banged into the inner rail and sent
Rodriguez tumbling over the barrier.
The 28-year-old Rodriguez won back-to-back races in the two prior events on
Sunday’s card to move into a tie for second place in the Pimlico rider
standings.
Listen Up was unharmed.
Also on Sunday, Calder’s leading apprentice rider Pascacio “Paco” Lopez was
taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, for evaluation after
being unseated in the 4TH race at the Miami Gardens, Florida, venue.
Trey (Three Wonders) with Lopez aboard apparently clipped heels with Fast
Claim Deed (Suave Prospect) and went down, sending his rider to the track.
Jockey David Boraco, aboard Fast Claim Deed, was also unseated during the
incident. He was taken to the jockeys’ room at Calder as a precaution, but
seemed to emerge unscathed from the incident.
Neither Trey nor Fast Claim Deed was injured.
