The second annual “Celebration of Barbaro” will be held at Delaware Park on
July 12-13. Events include a Cajun/Jazz Festival in Kennett Square,
Pennsylvania, at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on July 11; a picnic at Fair Hill Training
Center followed by a fund raiser at Timothy’s in Newark, Delaware, from 7-10
p.m. on July 12; and a reservations-required BBQ in the Grove at Delaware Park
from noon-6 p.m. on July 13 followed by a showing of the Hennegan Brothers
movie, “The First Saturday in May,” on the big screen in the infield at the
conclusion of racing.
Jean Cruguet, who rode Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, will be available
for autographs and photos.
“The impact Barbaro’s triumph and ultimate passing had on his fan’s lives
cannot be underestimated,” Celebration of Barbaro founder Sharon Crumb said.
“What we hope to achieve this second year is to continue the work with track
safety and Thoroughbred rescue.”
All proceeds will benefit Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA). Last
year’s event raised more than $20,000 in the name of Barbaro for Thoroughbred
rescue and laminitis research.
In addition, there will be a special tribute to Eight Belles, with those
proceeds going to the TCA’s Eight Belles Memorial Fund for rescue and research
into catastrophic breakdowns.
