Farnsworth Stables’ GOZZIP GIRL (Dynaformer) rallied from last to take
Sunday’s $150,000
Herecomesthebride S. (G3) in the shadow of the wire at Gulfstream Park.
Skimming the rail late with Elvis Trujillo, the Tom Albertrani trainee caught
Obsequious (Fusaichi Pegasus) by a half-length. Gozzip Girl reeled off 1 1/8
miles on the firm turf in 1:47 1/5 to pay $7.60, $3.80 and $2.60 as the 5-2
second choice.
Obsequious was forwardly placed throughout, stalking in second while the
trailblazing Oilgonewile (Montbrook) set splits of :24 2/5, :48 2/5 and 1:11
3/5. At the top of the lane, Obsequious dismissed the longtime leader and set
sail for home, but she could not fend off the winner’s furious finish. The 6-1
runner-up gave back $7.20 and $4.40 and concluded the $55.80 exacta.
Bluegrass Princess (Dynaformer), third in the early going, retained that spot
at the line, checking in another three-quarters of a length astern. Show was
worth $5 at 7-1. The trifecta totaled $253.60, and with the 17-1 Fast Tigress
(Hold That Tiger) getting up for fourth, the 6-1-2-5 superfecta yielded
$1,243.80. Candle Maker (Tapit), Guarda (Empire Maker), 9-5 favorite Dream
Empress (Bernstein) and Oilgonewile rounded out the order of finish.
Gozzip Girl was registering her second straight stakes victory, following a 2
1/4-length coup in the Coconut Grove S. over the course. The dark bay broke her
maiden on the turf at Aqueduct last November. Next time out, she crossed the
wire third in a Gulfstream allowance, but was disqualified and placed fifth.
Gozzip Girl has compiled a mark of 5-3-0-0, $192,194.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, the winner went to her
current owners for $60,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. She is out of the
unraced Kingmambo mare Temperence Gift, whose latest progeny are an unnamed
juvenile filly by More Than Ready, a yearling colt by War Chant and a 2009 colt
by Aragorn (Ire). Gozzip Girl hails from the family of multiple Grade 1-winning
millionaire Brocco (Kris S.).
