Six three-year-olds will travel seven panels at Gulfstream Park in Saturday’s
$150,000 Swale S. (G2). Sunshine Millions Dash S. star THIS ONE’S FOR PHIL
(Untuttable) has drawn the rail for this one and will likely vie for favoritism
in this under Garrett Gomez, but we’re looking elsewhere for our winner.
B Z WARRIOR (Malibu Moon) is cut out to be a standout in a race like this,
and we’ll give the Todd Pletcher charge a chance at a price. The chestnut colt
is kin to a pair of stakes-winning sprinters over the past two years and looks
like he’s ready to join that list soon after his first two outings. A game
winner from the 11 post at first asking, the Kentucky-bred finished third while
favored in a competitive allowance heat and will add blinkers for this. John
Velazquez has the call.
This One’s For Phil stopped abruptly turning for home in the Fountain of
Youth after setting a rapid pace and has every right to bounce back in here. The
Richard Dutrow trainee is plenty fast, recording a 111 BRIS Speed figure over
this strip two back, so he’s an obvious threat from the rail.
SABI SABI (Songandaprayer) was a fine allowance winner over this oval last
out and is another contender in this evenly matched field. The Eddie Plesa Jr.
pupil had a nice freshman campaign and has improved his BRIS Speed numbers in a pair of outings at three, so we feel that the Florida-bred could be the value of
the field beneath Jose Lezcano.
BIG DRAMA (Montbrook), who swept the Florida Stallion Series as a juvenile,
will be making his first start since bagging the Delta Jackpot S. (G3) in his
freshman finale for David Fawkes. The dark bay would be the pick if we were sure
that he was fully healthy and primed for this spot, but the uncertainty of how
he recovered from minor surgery scares us off at an expected short price. With
that said, if the extremely talented Florida-bred is very live on the board, it
could be a sign of him being 100 percent. Eibar Coa will steer from the outside
post.
BRAVE VICTORY (Lion Heart) flew home to top a solid allowance bunch last out
for Nick Zito and looks like a threat in here if he’s ready off the nearly
two-month break. The bay colt put in a huge work two prior — drilling a
half-mile in :46 4/5 at Palm Meadows — and has never been worse than second in
two tries at this trip. Julien Leparoux will be aboard. CUSTOM FOR CARLOS (More Than Ready) has put in a pair of fine efforts to
begin his career for Eddie Kenneally, recording 93 and 98 Speed figures. The
well-meant Kentucky-bred seems to be deserving of the jump to the stakes ranks
on this day, but we’ll just watch him here.
