First winner for Consolidator

Grade 1 winner CONSOLIDATOR (Storm Cat) was represented by his first winning
offspring on Sunday when his juvenile daughter Solid Lunar captured her career
debut, appropriately enough, at Lone Star Park. Five years ago, her sire ran
fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at the same track.

On Sunday with Cliff Berry aboard, the bay lass was
three-quarters of a length clear on the line in the 3RD race, finishing up 4 1/2 furlongs
on the fast track in :52 4/5 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Consolidator nearly broke his maiden in his second career start, just missing
by a neck in the Kentucky S. (G3) at Churchill Downs. He got the job done next
out for conditioner D. Wayne Lukas, and proceeded to finish third in the Sanford
S. (G2) and fourth in the Hopeful S. (G1) at Saratoga before earning his first
stakes score in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. The chestnut finished
out his juvenile campaign in the Breeders’ Cup, and returned as a three-year-old
to run fourth in the San Vicente S. (G2). He posted a dominant 6 1/2-length
victory in the San Felipe S. (G2) before a fifth-place effort in the Blue Grass
S. (G1).

Consolidator was a contender for the 2005 Kentucky Derby (G1), but sustained
a fractured sesamoid bone in his right front ankle during a routine gallop the
Sunday before the Run for the Roses and was immediately retired.

The chestnut stands for a fee of $15,000, due when the foal stands and
nurses, at Darley near Lexington, Kentucky.
