A compact field of five will line up in Saturday’s $150,000 La Prevoyante H.
(G2) at Calder. The controlling speed of this affair is the Tom Albertrani-trained
CRITICISM (GB) (Machiavellian), who was bagged two Grade 3 events in her last
three tries. It appears that the lass is the only horse in the group capable of
getting clear early, and with the minimal pressure that she is expected to
receive for the opening mile, it looks like her race to lose. Javier Castellano
has the call.
ASTROLOGIE (Fr) (Polish Precedent) gave a good impression of herself in the
Long Island H. (G2) as a three-year-old in the fall, finishing a useful third in
her U.S. debut. The classy Christophe Clement charge has been training well at
Payson Park in preparation of this tilt and will receive Lasix for the initial
time, so it seems obvious that she has a big chance with anything resembling her
best in here.
LONG APPROACH (Broad Brush) had an excellent prep for this when second in a
Keeneland allowance, and the Jonathan Sheppard trainee could break through with
her first graded win if the top pair falters. The five-year-old mare, who was a
close second in the Cardinal H. (G2) last fall, has never run 1 1/2 miles but is
in the right barn to do so. We give the Keystone State-bred a chance beneath
Kent Desormeaux.
The impeccably bred ICON PROJECT (Empire Maker) rolled home a facile
allowance victress in advance of this and looks more than capable of handling
the stretch out in distance on this occasion for Marty Wolfson. Fourth in the
Ribblesdale S. (Eng-G2) at this distance at Royal Ascot as a sophomore, the
four-year-old has called Calder her home base since arriving in the states and
should be ready to put in a good showing under the guidance of Elvis Trujillo.
AWESOME MOMENT (Awesome Again) has never registered a BRIS Speed figure
higher than 87 in her turf career and was just beaten soundly in her latest, so
we’ll look elsewhere.
